I’ll admit…I’m exhausted.

We’ve done some big kick-off trainings for the new school year and it’s been really exciting to get folks started on the right foot, but it’s drained me.  More than usual it seems.

Today and tomorrow I get to do some training of folks on topics that I LOVE: The Common Core Standards and Instructional Coaching.

But even though I love the topics, I’m tired.

Did I mention that already?

So, I’m going to have to practice what I preach – – I said it just today in a training – – we owe our kids our best.  And giving them the best sometimes means “acting as if”.

Today, for me, will be spending the first 10 or so minutes “acting as if” I’m not exhausted.

The cool thing?

In about 15 minutes, I’ll believe it!  And I will have natural energy and enthusiasm.

Here’s what I just decided for myself.

Tonight?  I will do as little work as possible.  I will put on my jammies early and crawl into bed and watch some TV and get at least 8 hours of sleep.  Sounds heavenly.

Don’t forget to rest and restore along the way…because anything that we do in schools is worth doing well.  And if we’re too tired to do them well, the kids get what’s left over.

And they deserve more.

‘night!
