Today I’m going to keep it practical, short, and sweet in how to choose actionable things you can take right back to your school and your classroom right now.

The 80/20 principle is a business precept that says 80% of any outcome comes from 20% of the work that we do.

This has incredible application in the field of teaching! I see a lot of people spending a lot of time on the fluff – and as a result, the really important stuff gets lost in the shuffle.

So my encouragement to you is to analyze your teaching day and ask yourself, ‘What 20% of what I taught today is having 80% of the results I was hoping for with my students?’

  • Did I spend so much time on the fluff that my students were only able to master 50% of the skill?
  • What are some activities and routines I can cut out to prioritize the important stuff?
  • Are my students producing meaningful work that shows me what they know?
